What is NLP?
The book "NLP Workbook For Dummies" (1) says:
"Whether you’re feeling flat, down, looking for a boost or a remedy to a hectic lifestyle, Neuro-Linguistic Programming is full of practical tips and tricks which can help you to change and improve the way you view your life and how you live it."
It is also:
* the art and science of communication
* the way to achieve the desired results and goals
* a "user manual" for your brain
* the way to shape-up your future
* a toolbox for personal and structural changes
NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming, which is:
- Neuro: our neurological system regulates how our bodies function
- Linguistic: language determines how we interact and communicate with other people
- Programming., our programming determines the the way we see the world.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming describes the dynamic between our mind (neuro) and our language (linguistic) and how their interaction affects our body and behaviour (programming).
It is, as mentioned above, the "user manual" for the brain which helps us improve in areas such as:
- communication: understand and be understood clearly and efficiently
- develop constructive relations
- change to become more flexible and give the best of yourself
- life choices: make the right decisions to suit your environment
- self awareness: choose your emotions and change the habits that stop you from developing
- achieve goals aligned with your values and beliefs
- develop self-confidence
Even when we think we communicate clearly, we bring our own view of the world created by different life experiences that make each individual hear / see / feel something different.
* Example:
"A child is riding a bicycle while holding a ball"
Questions: what is the color of the bike, the child's age, the size of the ball, etc.? Each person has a different answer to offer. It is the same in all communication exchange!
